Abington Little League General Meeting 5/22/00
Board Attendees: Joe Gagliardi, Al Moyer, Pete Doggett, Bill Higley, Dave Bichler, Sean Hanahue, Joe Frisino, Ellen Bugno, Jim Hatton, Diane Colombo
General Membership: Steve Selige, Tim Rowland, Bill Durdach
Steve was curious about the Ackerly Field Complex, especially about lights. Joe Frisino mentioned that we need to consider lights as a nuisance to the neighbors, and it's our responsibility to make it clear we are going to use them responsibly. The neighbors are more concerned about the traffic than the lights. The lights will allow for another shift which will increase the traffic. The Little League mandates that use of lights is restricted to certain hours. We haven't made any plans to stretch its limits.
We are in the midst of an initial paperwork and fundraising phase. Our first mailing was to 4300 families with past regisistrations in the Abingtons or were past fundraising participants. We will be conducting our fundraising in three manners, private, corporate and government. Sean also mentioned that we will be soliciting in-kind donations.
Bill Durdach asked about Quick Dry at the Little League. There hasn't been reasonable use of the Quick Dry and the coaches will be asked to restrict the use of it in since it costs $12-13 per bag and we have already used 43 bags this year and the number of games saved has not warranted its use.
Tim was publicly thanked for assisting on the Field and Grounds effort he has made. Diane Colombo was thanked for her efforts in the fundraising efforts.
Steve asked about our finances. Our operating budget is near $90,000. The savings we have been earmarked to cover our mortgage payments.
We will be having a follow up meeting with Glenburn Township to further understand the new ordinances they will be adopting. The Countryside Conservancy has provided support for the design of the fields.
Diane said Trudy indicates we have had some returns on the fundraiser, but they haven't been tallied yet. The papers have the articles for the kickoff and should be running a picture of our participating bankers soon.
