Our League Safety Code (From the League Safety Manual)

The items listed below represent what we feel to be important issues and elements for maintaining a high level of safety in all our leagues:

  • A Board position League Safety Officer who shall develop a league wide safety program,
  • We will conduct training for all league personnel in common First Aid practices and procedures, as well as maintain a complete supply of the First Aid Kits and equipment for all Coaches and Fields.
  • All accidents that require First Aid must be reported on a Injury Report Form to the Safety Officer within 48 hours of the incident.
  • No games or practices should be held when weather or field conditions are not good.
  • Fields should be inspected before practices and games for safety.  Such things as holes, damage, stones, glass, etc., should be repaired or removed if possible.  If not contact the League Field and Grounds officer.
  • Only players, managers, coaches and umpires are permitted on the playing field during games and practice
  • All practices and games should be conducted in a safe and organized manner.
  • All players should be alert and watching the batter on each pitch during practice and games.
  • Catchers must always wear full protective equipment when warming up or catching a Pitcher at practice, before games or during a game.
  • Coaches should take extended time to teach proper sliding technique (head first sliding should be avoided except when returning to a base).
  • During warm-ups and practices players should be spaced so that no one is endangered by wild throws or missed catches.
  • Equipment should be inspected regularly for defects, breaks, and proper fitting.
  • Batters must wear approved protective helmets during batting practice and games.
  • At no time should "horse play" be permitted at a practice or game.
  • All player who wear glasses or who have braces should wear batting helmets with full face masks.
  • Players should not wear watches, earrings, rings, pins, necklaces, etc., or any kind of jewelry or metallic items.
  • Parental permission and release forms should be on hand at all practices and games.
  • All coaches, players, volunteers, and parents are responsible for safe conduct at both practices and games.
